YALLAH – You All Are Hackers is an international exchange program between the University of Siegen (Germany) and Birzeit University (West Bank, Palestine). YALLAH’s motivation is to offer ten Palestinian and ten German students a twofold exchange experience: on the one hand, you can get in touch with each other, meet new people, visit new places and just have a regular student exchange. On the other hand – and this is where the Hackers come into play – we encourage you to do collaborative projects. The overall theme for these projects is defined rather broadly as social innovation in order to let you freely explore possibilities for innovative and creative project ideas. To achieve your project goals we will support you with various kinds of resources from University, Fab Lab and more.
At the University of Siegen, YALLAH has been initialized and will be administered by Prof. Dr. Volker Wulf (Information Systems and New Media) and Prof. Dr. Volkmar Pipek (Computer Supported Cooperative Work).
At Birzeit University, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering under supervision of Dr. Iyad Tumar is responsible for the Palestinian part of the exchange.
As you can see, two main exchange phases make up the project, one in Birzeit/Ramallah, one in Siegen. If you sign up for YALLAH, please note that you sign up for both of them. During your phase as ‘host’, taking part in activities as well as group projects is mandatory. However, this will be much less time-consuming than your role as ‘guests’.
